In September of 2004 Daniel C. Walter decided to put the business in Northern Virginia on hold and help those in need in Florida after Hurricane Ivan had happened. Hurricane Ivan is recorded in being the 10th strongest Atlantic Hurricane ever recorded and destroyed most of the panhandle of Florida. Daniel C. Walter believed that these people were more important than sustaining a business up in Northern Virginia and decided to help those in Florida. For almost nine months Family Tree Experts served the Pensacola, Florida area, usually through free services. Every night Daniel C. Walter raised the crane's boom to its height 160 feet, which held the 10 x 14 foot American Flag, in order to give hope to all those that saw that were going through the loss and pain from Hurricane Ivan.
